Tiny Den turned Cozy Homeschool Room

Homeschool Room

I love our sweet little homeschool classroom. It is probably my favorite room in the house, truly. And when we were first looking to purchase our home I thought it would be a bit too tiny to really work with, but it came out perfect for us!

Now let me be honest, it is RARELY this neat and tidy. Usually my kids either have their homeschool assignments or some kind of craft supplies spread all over their desks, and I have worksheets to grade and file piled up with my teacher books on the little filing cabinet.

But when it’s all nice and neat, I could sit in there for hours.

Making the Most of Our Tiny Homeschool Space

The entire space is about 55 sq. ft. But even with the limited space, I knew I wanted some flexibility with the kids’ desks and I did not want them confined to one spot, if possible. Thankfully, I was able to find the perfect furniture that allows us to make the most of the space.

Getting Creative with Desk Space

The desks are lightweight and easy to move, so we can arrange them in various ways for whatever works best from day to day. When they prefer to face each other we can push them together to make a table. And when they would rather not (if you know what I mean), we can easily separate them. It’s nice to have the ability to change it up.

Glass Dry Erase Boards Add a Little Extra Fun

We love the simple glass dry erase boards from IKEA for above the desks. Whether I write their assignments on their boards for the day, or they get their creativity flowing with drawings or messages, these boards add a little extra fun to the room that we all enjoy.

Storage and Other Teaching Tools

For storage, I found this beautiful cabinet on amazon.com that holds our books, art supplies, and other random school materials. And on the hallway wall, we have a white board (from Target) and a large dry erase calendar (sorry I don’t have a good picture of this, but it came from Walmart).

This Is Our First Homeschool Room… and We’ve Only Had It For a Year

It is absolutely not necessary to have a designated homeschool room if you want to homeschool. We have been homeschooling now for almost 6 years, and this is the first year we have had an actual “room” for it. Before now, we would generally use the dining room table or living room couch/coffee table. And we still use those spaces from time to time to change it up and move around, rather than being confined to one area.

I have always loved to look at other homeschool spaces and dreamed of my own, so I thought I would share for anyone else looking for inspiration as well.

If you have a homeschool space you’d like to share, please do! Link in the comments. And either way I’d love to know from my fellow homeschoolers, what type of setup works best for your family?

XOXO ~Kristin

Thanks Ginger! They were either from wayfair or IKEA.
